Objective:
To determine how intuition, emotions, and cognition have influenced decisions made by business leaders
participating in the study.
Rationale:
The purpose of this research is to use the outcome for developing an approach
to help us all improve the quality of our decisions.
Participants’ Effort:
Participants
will be asked to complete an on line survey (approximately 30 minutes), and optionally to partake in a telephone interview
(approximately 30 minutes).
Free White Paper, Presentations, and Coaching:
Participants
will receive a free copy of the white paper that will be produced at the end of the study. Participants will be also invited
to presentations based on the outcome of the study.
And as always, participants
will be offered a free complementary coaching session.
Criteria for Participants:
Participants
should be prepared to recount a business decision they were directly responsible for, either as a business
owner or as a corporate executive / manager. The economic size or impact of the decision should have been at least $100,000.
We are looking for decisions that in retrospect have proved successful and unsuccessful.
Nature of Questions:
Participants will be asked to provide information such as:
- Personal details, such as name, address, gender and occupation.
- Details about the decision,
such as the matter decided upon, the goal of the decision, and economic impact.
- Core values of the participants and the
criteria or guiding principles used in this decision.
- Assumptions used.
- Intuition used.
- Emotions that influenced
the decision.
- Outside advice or intervention used in making the decision.
Confidentiality:
Confidentiality will be strictly
maintained. No details that could identify the participant will be released in any way without the written permission of the
participant.
Time Line:
The study will take approximately six months to complete. It will start with a Pilot Phase that will
take four to six weeks. The pilot will be followed by Phase One of the study.
Number of Participants:
The number of participants in Phase One will
be approximately 200. The merit of extending the study beyond Phase One will be considered at the end of that phase.
Pilot:
A Pilot Phase will be conducted with 20 participants, at the end of which adjustments
to the study methodology and to the survey will be considered. Participants in the pilot will be asked to provide feedback
that could be used to improve the remainder of the study.
